Wonton House (Box Hill)

Reviewed

Food

  • Signature Wonton Noodle Soup (Dry)
  • Traditional Beef Brisket & Wonton Noodle Soup

The Good

The Egg Noodles were absolutely spot on. With just the right hardness, they were silky smooth and didn’t clump together.

The Wontons were also quite enjoyable. A thin delicate skin enclosed whole, crunchy prawns. Seasoned with an abundance of pepper and accompanied by super fatty pork, these wontons were bursting with flavour.

The Mediocre

The broth was pretty lacklustre. Tasteless, watery and bland, it was a far cry from the “Supreme Broth” stewed for 24hours as advertised. Dumping in a heap of sweetened soy sauce and chilli oil helped the cause, but that’s besides the point.

The Bad

The Beef Brisket was downright THE worst beef brisket I’ve ever sampled. Not only was it tough and chewy, it also managed to be dry and also lacking in beef flavours and aroma. Exceedingly disappointing and was way off the expectations of juicy, tender beef that I craved.

The Verdict

Seriously, come here for the Wonton and dry noodles and nothing else, as absolutely nothing else seems up to scratch.

Would Penguin Eat Again?

Not likely. With only one menu item being passable, I think I’d give this place a miss.
